The context

At Motive, I worked on internation expansion of the web application for the EU region. The work connected user-facing localization with the shared systems needed to support more markets.

My contribution

  • Developed shared localization utilities and helped two other teams adopt them.
  • Expanded supported currencies from 2 to 15+ across four product verticals, including refactoring the Ruby on Rails currency implementation.
  • Localized the Vehicle experience and migrated country-based logic from country names to country codes.
  • Extended an automated translation workflow to generate Jira tickets for translated strings.
  • Helped develop a Claude skill to identify and fix translation bugs in the web app.
  • Identified a customer-facing UX problem, pitched an improvement to the product team, and implemented the fix.

What came together

Currency support grew from 2 to 15+ currencies across four product verticals. The localized EU Vehicle experience saw a 149% increase in user adoption and launched with no customer-reported bugs. The separate UX fix also reduced related customer tickets from two per week to zero. Shared utilities and country codes made the localization work easier to extend across teams and markets.
